(More customer reviews)My MIL bought our family this entire set as a Christmas present and it is by far my favorite nativity. It successfully captures the simplicity of the humble manger scene without gaudy embellishments. It is also one of the few sets where Mary is cradling the baby Jesus which adds to the tenderness of this nativity. The pieces are large, made of solid wood and the carving and paint is high quality (thus worth the price tag). Amazon has a better price for the set than any of the specialty book stores that carry it. The only item in the set that I believe is overpriced is the creche ($107). It is made of a light-weight soft wood and simple straight lines and just doesn't seem worth the large price tag when it could be duplicated by anyone with a little crafting talent. If it had not been a gift, I would have had my husband build one or gone without it. It is even possible that you can match a less expensive creche from a different nativity set.
