(More customer reviews)I was looking for a nativity scene for my mother who is in her late 60's. I wanted something traditional that showed artistic talent and quality. This set really exceeded my (and her) expectations. It looks like a high end nativity scene that would be in a church around Christmas time. The faces are lifelike, with serene expressions. The clothing is done in an antique finish similar to Hummel figures. Overall the set projects a sacred and special quality. I was initially hesitant about the size of the figures (the tallest is 16 inches), but they fit well into a display space of about 4 square feet, and because of their size they stand out, making a nice statement in a room with a Christmas tree and other decorations.
The package doesn't come with a suggested layout for the scene, so I have two suggestions:
1) A 2 foot by 2 foot scene with Mary/Joseph/Jesus on the left, and the wise men on the right side, facing them. The standing wise man with the chest of gold coins looks good in the back, with the other standing wise man in front, and the kneeling man between them. I placed the angel (on a shelf) just above and to the right of the scene, looking downward.
2) A four foot wide and one foot deep layout, with the figures in a slight c-shaped arc. From left to right: wise man with the gold coin chest, the angel, the holy family, the kneeling wise man, and the other standing wise man.
The key of course with both of these layouts is to have the other four figures' faces looking directly at the baby Jesus, which takes a little care to achieve.
