(More customer reviews)This is a battery operated (3 triple A) music box with an on-off switch that is one of the turntable knobs on the front of the box. You can leave the lid open and turn it off when you don't want it to play. The songs are typical standards and the music box does not have that "tinny" sound that plagues many music boxes. This was a Christmas gift and I love it.
