It does have wool attached to the back of the wood front piece but unlike many scapulars the front image, wood, and wool are securely affixed to one another. I kept having trouble with scapulars coming apart (the image piece detaching from the wool backing), becoming twisted, and absorbing sweat. This product is like a cross between a traditional scapular and a scapular medal and is an attractive alternative. I also like that the cord is sturdy, allowing users to attach additional medals if they choose. I think that it would be an excellent choice for children as well due to the small size and sturdiness.
